Connecticut is beautiful in the fall. (It also means a terrible winter is on it's way, but we'll try to ignore that.) We took advantage of the beautiful, and surprisingly warm fall weather and hiked up to Heublein Tower in Talcott Mountain State Park (about 30 minutes north of us). It was a rather easy hike, but Nolan didn't walk much on his own (Justin carried him most of the way).
At the top of Talcott Mountain is the Heublein Tower--a summer home built in 1914 for the wealthy Heublein family. (Side note: The Heublein family started in hotels/restaurants, and began manufacturing A1 Steak Sauce and Smirnoff.)
We climbed up to the top of the tower (which is about 1000 ft above sea level) and could look over the Farmington River Valley. On clear days, you can even see into New York State and Massachusetts.
Although we had not quite hit the "peak" fall foliage, but the view was still beautiful. It turned out the be the perfect day for a hike.
What an amazing view! I haven't seen a true fall in 5 years. Those colors are beautiful.
