Honorable Mention
Last semester I wrote a grant for the Graduate Research Fellowship Program from the National Science Foundation to receive funding for my graduate school research. It was quite the process--you have to find an unknown biological issue/topic and propose how you are going to research it over the next 3 years. It's not a long paper, but the scientific jargon and the structure make it a beast. On average 9,000-10,000 people apply and approximately the top 10% are funded. I was not one of the ones funded, but my proposal did receive honorable mention which made my day! Click here to go to the actual website. ReplyDeleteI wrote about researching how Vibro parahaemolyticus (a bacterium that causes food poisoning when you eat undercooked/raw shellfish) affects cells that it infects (specifically, one of the proteins that it secretes).
