Football Season Begins

We had the opportunity to go to a University of Connecticut (UConn) football game today.  We drove out to Rentschler Field in East Hartford to watch the Huskies play North Carolina State University.

It was a windy day and storms threatened, but luckily it only rained a bit and the clouds kept the temperature down.  Here are some pre-game pictures.  I loved entering the stadium and hearing the crowd, announcers, and band--such an electrifying feeling!

 Nolan did extremely well at the game.  We were worried about the noise, so we came prepared with earplugs.  He actually napped during some of the first half and was very happy during the rest of the game.  Most of the time he was very content just sitting on our laps watching the game and eating a few snacks.  We were impressed/surprised.

Nolan's favorite part of the game was the marching bad.  We're not sure how, but it held his attention for most of half-time as he was content to just sit in Justin's lap and watch them run around on the field.

And perhaps it was our favorite, as well.  We barely got a first down at the end of the 1st quarter (thanks to a roughing the passer penalty), and the game was riddled with mistakes and turnovers.  Anytime we thought we were gaining momentum, the QB would get sacked (or trip over his own lineman), they would false start, or throw an interception.  With 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter (and down 10-0), we finally got a touchdown.  A few minutes later UConn tried to make it down the field again, but failed.  So it was a slow and disappointing game, but we had a fun time with Nolan and our new friends from the ward.
