Surprise! Car crashes into our living room

I think most people have seen this on our facebook, but this is a blog-worthy post.

We traveled to Denver, Colorado to spend time with Justin's family for Christmas and New Year's.  Late Wednesday night (technically 12:30 am Thursday morning), the Dallas police department contacted us and informed us that a driver (who was under the influence of something) had crashed into our living room.  Justin talked with the police and got some friends to check our apartment out for us (and make sure this was real), etc while I was still sleeping.  After figuring out a few things, Justin woke me up and we called the insurance companies and handled everything we could.  Here are some pictures that our friends took that night.

Luckily very few things in our apartment are really irreplaceable, and nearly all the damage was confined to the living room.  The picture of Christ that Justin's grandparents gave him for graduating college was fine (on the right) and although we'll probably need a new couch and side tables, it may be a nice change.  We have renter's insurance but hopefully the driver has insurance that will cover the costs. Also, no one was hurt.

They boarded up our apartment for the night and had a security guard watch it overnight. We talked with one of the leasing managers for our apartment in the morning and they said they were already working on fixing the place for us.  Another one of our friends stopped by and shot this picture.

For any grandparents that may see this and worry--we are fine.  And we want to thank everyone who's helped us out or called to make sure we're okay and not homeless. Although it's a bit of a hassle, I'm sure this will all work out.

DWI Suspect Crashes into Village Apartment

DALLAS - A drunken driving suspect crashed into an apartment in Dallas overnight.
The incident happened just before 1 a.m. in the 8300 block of Southwestern Boulevard in The Village apartment community.
According to investigators, police tried to pull over a Suzuki sedan that was driving the wrong way. They said the unidentified driver fled but only made it a few blocks before crashing.
The car came to a stop inside an apartment.
Next-door neighbor Matt Orsini said he was just getting to bed when the wreck happened.
"It sounded like a bomb was going off, or a tree was falling down," Orsini said. "You don’t expect to come outside in the middle of the night and find a car in your neighbor's living room."
After crashing, the suspect crawled out of the car and hid in the kitchen before officers arrested him, police said. He is charged with DWI and evading arrest.
Officers also arrested a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle. She is charged with drug possession.
Neither suspect was injured, nor was anyone else hurt.
The apartment is occupied but the residents were out of town, officials said.
